If your child is currently in our U5 programme, the journey from here to U18 is 13 years. That is a long time, and the programme they are in has been designed with that full arc in mind. Here is what that journey looks like.
Foundation Phase: U4–U7
The foundation phase is about love of the game and the beginnings of game sense. Your child plays everywhere, has no fixed position, and is introduced to two simple ideas: OUR BALL (we all attack) and THEIR BALL (we all defend).
The most important thing that happens in this phase is not technical. It is emotional: your child develops a relationship with football that is characterised by joy, belonging, and intrinsic motivation.
Development Phase: U8–U11
In this phase, Club Language becomes richer. Win It · Play It · Go introduces directionality. Loose positional structures begin to emerge. Players start to develop football intelligence — the ability to read the game and make decisions quickly.
This is still not a specialisation phase. Multi-sport participation is encouraged. Technical coaching is game-based, not drill-based.
Refinement Phase: U12–U14
Position-specific development begins in this phase, built on the wide game-reading base of the earlier years. Club Language phrases are used tactically. Sessions become more complex, with more sophisticated STEPs and greater positional awareness.
Application Phase: U15–U18
The application phase is where everything comes together. Club Language is now a tactical language — players use it with each other in matches, not just in training. Formation work, counter-pressing, build-up play, set pieces — all of it is built on the cognitive and technical foundation of the previous 11 years.
The Common Thread
Across all phases, the same Club Language phrases recur with greater complexity. The same Whole-Part-Whole structure governs every session. The same coach positioning and intervention approach applies.
The consistency is the feature. Development requires repetition across contexts. Thirteen years of coherent practice is the investment your child is making.
